The 3rd day’s programme of Konark Festival 2009 began with Dance Drama by Ranjana Gauhar Honoured with the Padma Shri (2003) and the Sangeet Natak Academy Award (2007) for her dedication to Odissi, Ranjana Gauhar is a leading exponent of Odissi and also trained in Kathak, Chhau and Manipuri dance styles.
Ranjana presented Chandrabhaga (Dance Drama), Trimudra (Dance presentation), Oriya song, Prayer to Shiva and Pallavi based on Raag Saveri
In the second session of the evening the main attraction was Ritu Samhar by Thingbaijam Babu Singh group. Late Thingbaijam Babu Singh was a widely respected Ras guru. He received the Sangeet Natak Academy Award (1990) and the Padma Shri (2007).
The group presented Ritu Samhar: The programme brings ancient poetry alive through an artistic exploration of the six seasons by six female dancers based on Kalidasa’s epic poem Ritu Samhara, a masterpiece of Sringara Rasa.
